Something about your business changed and the entry describing it is now wrong. This is the whole process for fixing that, and it is short because it should be.
For the broader context behind this business guide, read Our Entry Bar, In Full: And Everything We Turn Down.
What this is, and who it is for
For an operator whose business is in the register. It covers what is worth telling us, how to tell us, what we do with it, and how to have the entry removed instead if that is what you would rather.
Use Contact without signing in to report a change. Verified owners can also sign in to owner tools to propose edits to their claimed listings. A person reviews changes before publication.
The four changes worth telling us about
Anything else is welcome too, but these four are the ones that make an entry misleading rather than merely dated.
1. The address we point at changed. A new domain, a moved page, a shop that now sells through a different site. A link that lands somewhere wrong is the single worst state an entry can be in, because it sends people to the wrong place while looking authoritative.
2. What a customer can do changed. We record one specific action: buy, hire, book, read or visit. If you have stopped taking commissions, closed the online shop, moved to appointment only, or added something that has become the main thing, the entry no longer describes the business.
3. Your physical details changed. A move, permanently different opening hours, or a location that is no longer open to the public. Physical details go stale fastest and are the ones a reader is most likely to act on by getting in a car.
4. You are pausing, closing, or selling. Tell us and nothing dramatic happens. A pause is recorded rather than treated as a closure. A sale usually means a re-review, because independent ownership is one of the criteria and it may have changed.
How to tell us, and what to include
Message us at corrections with three things:
- Which entry, by the address it points at or the name we used.
- What is wrong now.
- What it should say instead.
That is everything. You do not need to explain why, provide evidence, or write it in any particular form. We ask for a way to contact you only so the outcome can be confirmed, and for nothing else, because nothing else would change what we do.
If you would rather not describe the change at all, ask for removal instead. That is always available and needs no reason.
What we do with it, and how long we take
- The message is logged.
- A person reads it and decides whether the change can be applied directly or needs a check.
- The entry is amended, re-checked, or removed.
- If a published fact changed, the correction is recorded in the public log with what was wrong, what it should have said, and how it was caught.
On timing, the honest position: we are not quoting a number of days while the queue is new, because we have not measured one. A turnaround we have never run is a guess rather than a commitment. When the log holds enough completed items to produce a real median, that figure goes on the corrections page and we hold ourselves to it, and the times we miss it get logged there too.
Two things do not wait for any of that. Anything that could actively harm you comes down first and is discussed afterwards: an entry wrongly marking a trading business as closed, and any personal detail we should never have published, a residential address above all. In both cases the material is removed before anyone argues about whether we agree.
When we will re-check rather than take your word
Some changes are applied straight from your message. Others start a check, and it is worth saying plainly why that is not distrust.
We re-check when the change affects something the entry asserts as checked. A date on this site means a named person confirmed something on that day. If we quietly edit the record to match what you told us and leave the old date sitting next to it, the date becomes a claim nobody made. The check exists to keep the date honest, not to audit you.
In practice:
- Applied directly: wording, a description that misses the point, a quote you would rather not have attributed to you, the removal of a detail.
- Starts a check: a changed destination, a change to what a customer can do, physical details, and anything suggesting the business may no longer clear the bar.
A check is the same procedure as any other: does the destination resolve, does the page still describe the business, can a customer still act, is there still a way to reach a human. If the answer to the last questions is no, the entry may be removed, and removal is not an accusation. What we do when a check fails sets out the sequence, including why one failure never means anything and what has to happen before a closure is recorded.
How to have the entry removed instead
Ask, and it goes. Free, no reason required, nobody attempting to talk you out of it, and nothing offered to you as an alternative. Removal takes the entry off the site and out of the machine-readable export, with nothing left in its place.
Narrower requests work the same way: stay listed but out of the discovery rotation, remove a quote, or never be listed again. That last one is recorded and honoured.
Removal is unconditional and always free. If you are dealing with a different listing site that scraped you and will not respond, how to get removed from a directory covers the escalation ladder and is honest about where it stops working.
What we do with your message afterwards
The message itself is kept only as long as it takes to complete the change and record the correction. What remains after that is the minimum needed to keep the correction log coherent and to honour a "never list again" request: essentially a note that a change happened and when.
You are not named in the log unless you ask to be. The log records whether an error was caught internally or externally, not who caught it. You are not added to any list, you will not be contacted with an offer, and nothing about the exchange is sold, rented or shared. Nothing else on this site is sold to a listed business either, and no payment of any kind moves a request up a queue, because there is no queue to move up.
In Plain English
If something changed, send a message to the corrections page saying which entry, what is wrong, and what it should say. No account is needed to send a correction through Contact. Include supporting public evidence when available; protected owner edits use Login. Wording changes are applied directly. Anything the entry asserts as checked, such as where it points, what a customer can do, or a physical location, starts a fresh check, because leaving an old date next to new text would turn it into a claim nobody made. We are not quoting a turnaround while the queue is new and unmeasured, but a wrongly marked closure or a personal detail we should not have published comes down before any discussion. If you would rather the entry simply went, ask, and it goes, free and without a conversation. The message is kept only as long as it takes to finish the job, and being listed asks nothing else of you.
Tell us something changed. It takes two sentences.
