The register
Browse the live directory, try Stumble, or suggest a business. All submissions require editorial review. The reference material below describes the published standard; it is not evidence that an individual business has been checked. No public dataset export or automated check log is offered.
Read the schema and evidence requirements below, then use the live directory to browse published records or submit a suggestion. Examples in this guide are not real business listings.
Current state
Published data rows: none in this edition
This page is the register schema and reading guide. Browse the live directory for published entries and search. Sample records in this guide are illustrative, not listings.
The current dataset result is null: no business row or refusal rate is supplied with this edition. A future dataset would have to derive both from dated assessment records rather than estimates; this page does not promise that dataset.
What a conforming entry contains
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| What it is | One sentence, written here, in our words rather than the operator's marketing copy. |
| What you can do here | Buy, hire, use, read or visit — the specific action available to you. |
| Last checked | The date a check ran, bound to a required row in a dated check log. It cannot be typed in. |
| Method version | Which version of the method produced that date, so an old entry stays readable. |
| Reviewed by | The name of the person who examined it, and the date they did. |
| Independence basis | How we established the business is independently owned, rather than assuming it. |
| Operator quote | Optional. If present, attributed, with a capture date and a source link. |
What you will not find
- No stars, scores, tiers, rankings or best-of lists. The record structure has no field for one.
- No sponsored, featured or promoted entries. There is no way to buy a position because there is no position to buy.
- No affiliate links. Every outbound link goes straight to the operator, with no interstitial and no tracking redirect that hides the destination.
- No location-by-category pages. There will never be a 'best plumbers in' page here.
- No reviews, and no aggregated ratings pulled in from anywhere else.
How to read a check date
A date says one thing: on that day, a named person found this business and it was recognisably the thing we described. It does not say the business is good, safe, solvent or open right now.
Past our staleness threshold an entry is flagged rather than hidden. Hiding a stale entry is a silent claim; flagging it lets you decide. If you are about to travel or spend money, ring first — we say that even though it undercuts the convenience of the register, because it is true.
Categories
Category pages do not publish until they hold at least three entries meeting the bar and have an introduction written by a person. A category with one entry is a page built to exist rather than to be read.
No category currently meets that gate, so none is listed. Where a category is missing, it is missing rather than thin.
When an entry leaves
Businesses that stop trading move to gone as a tombstone with the date of their final check, after two failed checks at least fourteen days apart and a human confirmation. They are not deleted. A register with no tombstones is a register nobody is checking.
Businesses that ask to be removed are required to be removed promptly, free, without a reason and without any attempt to keep them. Read the removal procedure.
For machines
The agent contract defines the format that any JSON export must satisfy: field dictionary, null rule, licence, rate limits, and staleness threshold. It is a format contract, not a claim that a downloadable export exists. Any conforming artifact is a snapshot of dated checks, never a real-time signal or lead list.
Questions about the register
Why are there no data rows?
Because this edition supplies the method and schema rather than an evidenced dataset. Illustrative businesses are not used to make the page look populated.
How large will it get?
Small, and slowly. Adding entries is cheap; keeping them true is not. The useful measure is how recently each entry was checked, not how many there are.
Where can I search?
The directory provides text search and neutral sorting over published entries. This page explains the evidence standard; it does not rank businesses by quality.
Can I ask you to add a competitor, or a business I dislike?
You may suggest a business through the submission form. A suggestion is never automatic publication. Any business, a competitor included, would be judged only against the entry bar; the submission self-check shows what that involves.
Do listed businesses know they are listed?
Yes, and they can leave at any time through the removal procedure without giving a reason. We do not require their participation to list them, and we do not require it to remove them either.
Is an entry here worth anything to a business?
Probably very little in traffic terms and we will not pretend otherwise. You're listed, here's what changes and what doesn't is deliberately deflationary about this.
What if an entry is wrong?
The register currently holds no entries. For an entry that exists, the corrections procedure sets out how an error is recorded and fixed, and the removal procedure covers an operator who would rather not be listed.
Counts on this page are taken from the register itself. Where a count would be zero, the zero is published.
