Corrections: record and handling standard

A material correction should be visible: what was wrong, how it was caught and what changed. This page specifies the record and handling procedure. Send a factual report through Contact. No completed correction history or response-time metric is claimed.

Current evidence

No qualifying dated correction entry is supplied with this edition. That is an unavailable result, not proof of accuracy, a measured zero-error record or a response-time claim.

The register contains no business rows. The method changelog describes version history requirements rather than providing invented assessment history.

Prepare a useful report

Identify the page, quote the disputed passage and explain the factual issue. Include a dated primary source or a reproducible observation when available. A broken link, a wrong description and personal information require different handling.

Do not include passwords, private keys, identity documents or unnecessary personal information. Use Contact to send a real report to this publication.

The handling procedure

A conforming publisher must log a report whether or not it proves correct. For a business entry, a report starts a check; it is not itself confirmation. The method defines the failure sequence and the need for human confirmation.

If a published fact is wrong, correct it in place with a visible note and record the material change. If the report is mistaken, record the reasoning. A report that exposes an ambiguity can still improve the page.

Personal information prohibited by the Line and a wrongly marked closure need urgent handling. No service window or completed outcome is claimed by this reference.

What a record must contain

FieldRequirement
Page and passageIdentify the exact published claim.
What was wrongDescribe the factual issue without a misleading summary.
How it was caughtDistinguish internal and external discovery without naming a reporter unless requested.
Evidence and dateBind the correction to actual observations or primary sources.
What changedShow the resulting public correction.
TimingRecord actual report and fix dates; do not invent a turnaround figure.

What belongs elsewhere

Copy edits that change no fact do not require a factual correction record. Method and entry-bar versions belong in the changelog. A private voluntary removal is governed by the removal procedure, with no public announcement required.

A conforming log must preserve its history rather than silently remove inconvenient entries. These are evidence requirements, not proof that an append-only storage system or automated workflow has been implemented.

Questions about corrections

Does an unavailable correction log prove accuracy?

No. Missing records do not establish an error-free publication.

Can I file a report from this page?

No report form or delivery workflow is supplied. This page explains what a useful report and correction record require.

Should a correction be silent?

No. A material factual change should leave a visible note and a dated record of the evidence and change.
