Questions

The things people ask most often about how this site works, answered directly and briefly, with a route to the page that covers each one properly.

About the register

Why is it empty?

Because nothing has been through a full review. The method and criteria are published before the records on purpose — a bar written after the fact tends to describe whatever was already listed. See the register.

How does something get in?

It clears six criteria, a named person examines it, and a dated check confirms it was trading. All of it is at the entry bar.

How big will it get?

Small, and slowly. Adding entries is cheap and keeping them true is not, which is the whole argument of why directories are full of businesses that closed years ago.

About money

Can a business pay to be here?

No — not for inclusion, position, removal, a badge or a faster review. Who pays for this sets out the mechanism rather than the promise.

None inside any record, permanently. Elsewhere the site's position is to have none at all, and any that appeared would carry a visible disclosure immediately beside it.

How is the site funded then?

At present it earns nothing. If that changes, who pays for this changes first.

About accuracy

How current is any of this?

As current as the date shown next to it, and no more. Past the staleness threshold an entry is flagged rather than hidden. The method explains what a date does and does not mean.

What if something has closed?

Tell us at corrections. It starts a check rather than an immediate change — two failures at least fourteen days apart plus a human confirmation before anything is marked gone.

Do you ever get it wrong?

Yes, and the log at corrections records what and how it was caught, including when somebody else caught it first.

For operators

How do I get listed?

Submit a business. It is free, slow, offers no priority at any price, and is expected to be refused more often than not.

How do I get removed?

Request removal. Free, fast, no reason required, and nobody will try to talk you out of it.

Is being listed worth anything?

Probably very little in traffic terms, and we would rather say so. You're listed, here's what changes and what doesn't is deliberately deflationary about it.

Will you review or rate my business?

Never. We publish no assessment of any business, favourable or otherwise. See the Line.

About the rest of the site

Why so much writing about other directories?

Because a register asking to be trusted should first explain how the category it belongs to actually earns money. How directories actually work is that explanation.

Do you name bad listing sites?

No. We describe patterns and mechanisms, never a named operator as deceptive. It is a legal exposure we will not take on and, more importantly, patterns are more useful to a reader than a blocklist.

Was something else at this web address before?

Yes, an unrelated business, and we have no connection to it. About this domain states that plainly.

Where to go next

Anything else

Can I write for you?

Not currently. When operator interviews open, the terms are published in advance at in their own words so anyone asked can read them before deciding.

Do you have a newsletter?

No. The site does not operate an email subscription service; its methods and updates are published directly on the relevant pages.

Yes, and no permission is needed. We do not run a link exchange, accept guest posts, or trade links, and an offer to do any of those will be declined.

Do you use tracking or advertising?

No third-party advertising and no ad pixels. Whatever analytics exist are described in the cookie policy, and nothing counted feeds back into the discovery rotation.

Is the site's name final?

No. The wordmark is provisional and under review. If it changes, the change is announced at about this site rather than made silently.

Why does this page exist instead of a normal FAQ page?

Partly because the old address for a FAQ on this domain is permanently retired, and partly because these are cross-cutting answers with routes to the real page, rather than a page trying to answer everything itself.

Each answer here points at the page that covers it properly. Where the two differ, the detailed page is authoritative.
